Mr. Funanimous Manila MRT Survival Guide – Rules, Tips & Tricks

Metro Rail Transit (MRT) in Manila aka MetroStar Express was constructed in the year 1997 and opened on 1999. The birth of MRT is certainly a blessing to a lot of Pinoys especially the commuters. MRT signifies progress for the Philippines and lessen the growth of traffic problems in the Metro.

MRT is cheap. You can travel the 16.95 kilometer part of EDSA for only 14 pesos & will only take you 30-45 minutes to complete the 13 stations. Convenient diba? But.. MRT is really like a magazine, ang daming issues!

I am a proud commuter, I am using MRT since its birth & that made me a pro. Tourists, 1st time riders, Promdi, at mga laging naiisahan sa MRT; Learn to appreciate the ride, be an intelligent MRT rider. Here’s Mr. Funanimous Manila MRT Rules, Tips & Tricks.

Tip No. 1

Familiarize yourself with the MRT Stations.

Not all stations have clear signage & announcement of stations are not consistently done. Below is the Map.

Tip No. 2

Magdala ng hanky or tissue.

– Pamunas pawis.

Tip No. 3

Manila MRT Stored Value Ticket

Avail of the Stored Value Ticket

Tip No. 4

toilet Photo

Make sure to empty your gallbladder or stomach before riding the MRT.

Lalo na sa mga maseselan at maaarte sa CR, because MRT doesn’t have decent toilets to offer. Optonal ang tubig, KKB ang tissue & out of order ang privacy.

Tip No. 5
Manila MRT Defective Clock

Wrong Timing!

Don’t rely or base your time on MRT clocks, or else, you’ll find yourself too early or late on your appointments or you’ll find no time at all.

Tip No. 6

Manila MRT Yellow Lane

While waiting for the train… Don’t step on the Yellow Lane/Tile.

Preventive measure ito ng MRT, guards check & whistle on people stepping on the yellow lane.

Tip No. 7

Manila MRT Fall in Line

Fall in Line.

Station guards maintain the orderly of lines. MRT have clear markers now indicating where to stay as you wait & where to exit for those who will alight the train.

Tip No. 8

Manila MRT Blog - Female Area

Girls! Go to your designated area.

Tip No. 9

Beware of Terrorists,

not those with bombs because MRT’s security is really strict, I am talking about the following:

Terrorist 1 – they often come in groups & taking advantage of the MRT situation. Popularly known as Magnanakaw, Snatcher, pick-pocketers, Klepto, Salot, hayup, kupal etc. So always be mindful of your belongings, sometimes they will do things to distract you para magkaroon sila ng chance na nakawan ka.

– Ang BackPack ay hindi dapat backpack sa MRT, make it frontpack or else… mananakawan ka. Place your stuff where you can see them.

– Ang wallet at cellphone ay madalas nating nilalagay sa bulsa, pero this time, if you are to ride the MRT, put it in a safer place; either put it in your bag, or hold on it tightly.

Follow my tips then everything will be alright. MRT is not so bad after all… just enjoy the ride!
